Getting started

What is Netto and who is it for?
Netto is bookkeeping software built for solo entrepreneurs in the Netherlands (ZZP’ers and eenmanszaak owners), including international freelancers who want to run their admin in English. It handles invoicing, expenses, bank reconciliation, and BTW (VAT) preparation in one place.
Do I need an accountant if I use Netto?
Netto prepares your figures and BTW returns so you can file yourself, but it is not a replacement for tax advice. Many ZZP’ers file their own quarterly BTW and use an accountant once a year for the income tax return. You can export a complete bundle for your accountant at any time from Reports.
How do I set up my business?
On first login you’ll be guided through onboarding: your business name, KvK number, BTW number, IBAN, and invoice defaults. Everything can be changed later under Settings. The dashboard checklist tracks the three steps to get fully set up — add a customer, send an invoice, and import a bank statement.

Invoicing

How are invoice numbers generated?
Invoices are numbered sequentially using the prefix you set under Settings (for example INV-2026-001). Numbering must be continuous for the Belastingdienst, so numbers are assigned when an invoice is finalised and cannot be reused.
Can I send invoices in another currency?
Yes. You can invoice in EUR, USD, GBP and others. Netto stores both the original amount and the EUR equivalent using the ECB exchange rate on the invoice date, so your bookkeeping and BTW stay in euros while your customer sees their currency.
What is reverse-charge VAT and when is it applied?
For B2B customers in other EU countries with a valid VAT number, VAT is “reverse-charged” to the customer (you charge 0% and they account for the VAT). Netto detects this automatically when you add an EU customer with a VIES-verified VAT number, and prints the correct legal text on the invoice.
Can I add my logo and brand color?
Yes — go to Settings → Invoice branding to upload a logo and pick an accent color. These appear on your invoice PDFs.

Expenses & receipts

How does receipt scanning work?
Upload a photo or PDF of a receipt and Netto reads the vendor, date, amount, and BTW automatically. You review the extracted details before saving, so you stay in control of what gets booked.
Which expenses can I deduct BTW on?
You can reclaim BTW on business expenses where you received a valid invoice showing the VAT. Netto flags the BTW portion for each expense. Some costs (such as a portion of mixed business/personal use) may need adjustment — when in doubt, check with your accountant.

Bank reconciliation

How do I import bank transactions?
Connect your bank (see below), or export a CAMT.053 (.xml) or MT940 (.sta) statement from your bank’s online banking and upload it under Bank. Netto reads the transactions and automatically suggests matches against your open invoices and expenses.
Does importing a statement change my bookkeeping?
Importing only reads transactions; nothing is booked until you confirm a match. Confirming a payment against an invoice marks that invoice as paid. Matching an expense links the bank line to an expense that was already recorded, so nothing is counted twice.
Can Netto connect to my bank automatically?
Yes. Under Bank you can connect ING, Rabobank, ABN AMRO, bunq or Revolut. The connection is read-only: Netto reads your transactions and can never move money. New transactions come in by themselves and are matched to your invoices and receipts. If you would rather not connect, uploading statement files keeps working.

BTW (VAT)

How does the quarterly BTW return work?
At the end of each quarter, Netto compiles your BTW return mapped to the Belastingdienst boxes (1a, 1b, 1e, 3a, 3b, 5a, 5b). It includes the ICP breakdown for EU sales and flags anything that needs review. You check the figures and enter them in your Belastingdienst portal.
What is the KOR and how do I use it?
The KOR (Kleineondernemersregeling) is the small business scheme for turnover under €20,000/year. If you’re registered, you don’t charge BTW and can’t reclaim it. Enable KOR under Settings and Netto will produce KOR-compliant invoices and skip BTW calculations.
When are BTW returns due?
Quarterly BTW returns are generally due by the last day of the month following the quarter (e.g. Q1 by 30 April). Netto shows the due date on the BTW page, but always confirm deadlines in your Belastingdienst account.

Data, privacy & account

Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored on EU-based infrastructure. See our Privacy Policy for full details on how we handle and protect your information.
Can I export all my data?
Yes. Under Settings → Data export you can download your full bookkeeping records, and from Reports you can generate a complete accountant bundle (invoices, receipts, journal entries, trial balance, and profit & loss) as a single ZIP.
How do I delete my account?
You can request deletion from Settings → Danger zone. Note that Dutch law requires business records to be retained for 7 years, so we recommend exporting your data before deleting.
