Track your hours and invoice them
Log time with the timer or by hand, invoice the hours you worked, and keep an eye on the 1,225-hour test.
On the Hours page you write down the time you work. You can turn those hours into an invoice, and Netto counts them toward the hours test for your income tax.
Log time
There are three ways:
- The timer: type what you're working on and press Start. Press Stop when you're done. You can say which client or project it was for when you stop, or Decide later.
- A quick line: type it the way you'd say it, for example "3h yesterday Bloom", and Netto adds 3 hours to yesterday for the client Bloom.
- Add manually: fill in the date, the start and end time (or just the duration) and any break.
Each entry has a client or project, a description, and whether it's Billable (you charge the client for it) or not. Time on admin, finding new clients, travel or study is not billable, but it still counts for the hours test.
Rates and projects
Netto needs an hourly rate before hours can be invoiced. You can set one per client, or per project. If hours have no rate, Netto asks What do you charge …? the first time you want to invoice them.
A project groups hours for one piece of work. You can give it its own rate and a budget in hours or euros, and Netto shows how much is left.
Invoice your hours
Under Ready to invoice you see, per client, the billable hours you haven't invoiced yet.
- Press Invoice hours for a client.
- Choose the hours, and how to put them on the invoice: one line per project, per day or per entry.
- Press Create draft invoice. Check the draft and send it as usual.
The hours are then marked Invoiced, so you can't bill them twice.
The hours test (urencriterium)
To get some income tax deductions, such as the zelfstandigenaftrek (the self-employed deduction), you must spend at least 1,225 hours a year on your business. All business hours count, billable or not.
The Hours page shows how far along you are this year and whether you're on track. Did you start your business this year? The 1,225 hours are still the same for a part year.
Keep your hours up to date: if the Belastingdienst asks, you have to be able to show you made them.
