Work with your accountant

Invite your accountant to see your books and ask questions, or send them everything as one export.

Checked against the app on 23 October 2026

Many freelancers do their own VAT in Netto and have an accountant do the income tax return once a year. There are two ways to give them what they need: invite them, or send them an export.

Invite your accountant

  1. Go to Settings → Access.
  2. Enter your accountant's email address and press Invite accountant.

Your accountant gets an email with a link. They open it, type the 6-digit code we send to that address, and see your books. They don't need a password or a Netto subscription.

They can look at your VAT return per quarter, bank lines, invoices, expenses and receipts, and download the year's export, but they can't change anything. They can ask you a question about a quarter or a single line, and approve a quarter or send it back with a note. You see that at the bottom of the quarter under VAT, where you can answer too.

You can invite more than one accountant. To stop sharing, press Remove: access ends at once.

Send an export instead

On Reports you can download two files, in English or Dutch:

  • Accountant ZIP: everything for the year in one file. It holds your invoices (as a list and as PDFs), your expenses with their receipts, the journal entries, the trial balance and the profit and loss, with a short explanation.
  • Auditfile (XAF): the standard Dutch audit file. Most accounting software used by accountants can read it.

This year's audit file is also under Settings → Your data, next to Export my data, which gives you all your data as one file.

Tips for the year end

  • Match all your bank lines for the year, and file the VAT for the fourth quarter, before you send anything. Then the figures your accountant gets are final.
  • Netto's income tax page gives you an estimate to plan with. Your accountant does the actual return.
