Match your bank lines
How Netto suggests what each payment was for, and how to match, split, undo or set aside a bank line.
Every payment in or out of your business account needs to be explained once: which invoice it paid, which expense it was, or that it was private. That's what matching does. Nothing is booked from a bank line until it is matched.
Getting your bank lines in
Connect your bank on the Bank page, or upload the file your bank gives you. See Connect your bank or upload a bank file.
The tabs
- To match: lines that still need you.
- Set aside: lines you said you don't know yet (only shown when there are any).
- Done and All.
Netto's suggestions
For every line, Netto looks for what it could be: an invoice number in the payment description, the amount and customer name, a part payment, an open bill, a payment to the Belastingdienst, a transfer between your own accounts, and the rules it learned from you. You see how sure it is: Match found, Possible match or Your rule.
When there are several sure matches, Accept N sure matches books them all in one go. Book N lines by your rules does the same for lines your rules cover.
Matching a line
- Right suggestion? Accept it.
- Wrong one? Press This isn't the right match and choose what it was instead, for example Match to an invoice or Match to an existing expense.
- One payment for several invoices? Tick them all and press Match N invoices.
- A payment out with no expense yet? Choose Book as new expense. Netto asks Do you have the receipt or invoice? Upload it, and Netto reads it, books it and matches it in one step. No receipt yet? Book it now and add the receipt later. Until then you don't reclaim VAT on it.
- Private, or a transfer between your own accounts? Say so, and it's booked that way.
- Money coming in that isn't an invoice? Netto asks What was this money for?
Made a mistake?
Open the line under Done and press Unmatch. The booking is reversed, and the invoice or expense is open again, so you can match the line again.
Booking rules
When you book a line as a cost or as private, Netto remembers it for that counterparty (by IBAN, or else by name). The next payment to them is booked the same way. You can see and delete your rules under Settings → Books, advanced → Rules for bank lines: press Forget to delete one.
Don't know what a line was?
Press I don't know yet. The line moves to Set aside, and Netto reminds you in the weekly catch-up email. When you know, open it and choose Tell us what this was.
