Common questions about Netto

Short answers: is Netto a bookkeeper, who is responsible, can Netto move money, do I still need an accountant, and where is my data.

Checked against the app on 3 November 2026

Is Netto a bookkeeper?

No. Netto is software that helps you keep your own books: it reads receipts, suggests matches and prepares your VAT return. You stay responsible for your bookkeeping and your tax returns, and for checking what Netto prepares before you file it. Netto doesn't give tax advice.

Do I still need an accountant?

Not necessarily. Many freelancers do their own VAT in Netto. Some have an accountant do the income tax return once a year, or check things when they're unsure. You can invite your accountant to see your books (see Work with your accountant).

Who is Netto for?

Freelancers with an eenmanszaak (sole proprietorship) registered with the KvK in the Netherlands. The income tax estimate is worked out for an eenmanszaak; for a BV or VOF it doesn't apply.

Can Netto file my VAT return?

Not yet. Netto prepares the figures, and you copy them into Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk. Filing straight from Netto is coming soon. See Prepare, file and pay your VAT return.

Can Netto move money from my bank?

No. The bank connection only reads your payments and balance. Netto can never make a payment.

Netto reads my receipts with AI. Can it make mistakes?

Yes, sometimes. When Netto isn't sure, it opens the full form for you to check. Look at what it read before you save, especially the amount and the VAT.

Will Netto send anything without asking me?

No. Invoices, reminders and credit notes are only sent when you press send, or when you switched on automatic sending yourself (for recurring invoices or reminders). The assistant and WhatsApp always ask you to confirm first.

Where is my data?

Netto's hosting and database are in the EU. Some services, such as the AI that reads receipts, may process data outside it, with the safeguards the privacy policy describes. Bank access is read-only, and you can download all your data at any time under Settings → Your data.
